Your views needed on council tax and £30m cuts

BudgetWe want your views on the Council’s proposals to make £30m of budget cuts and options for council tax.

We have some very hard times ahead with no choice but to cut services as Government grant continues to be cut. This is after £80m of cuts we have made since 2010.

The consultation seeks views on a number of cuts including:

  • Closing six council-run libraries
  • No council-run youth clubs
  • No council-run community centres
  • No council-run markets
  • Less council-run children’s centres

Please take a few minutes to complete our online budget survey.

There’s also more information including our budget video and details of 16 budget roadshow events across the borough starting on 13 January where you can come and have your say.

Keep up-to-date on the budget by adding this to your News For You subscription.

Volunteer Snow Wardens Needed!

Telford and Wrekin Council's preparations to keep things moving during the snow and ice are in place, but they are looking for volunteer Snow Wardens to help clear pathways and smaller roads in and around their neighbourhoods.

Clearing pathways and roads in neighbourhoods can be a lifeline to those who are unable to clear the areas for themselves. Volunteering as a Snow Warden in your neighbourhood doesn’t take up much of your time – just the time it takes to shovel snow off a nearby path or road and sprinkle with salt.

All volunteer Snow Wardens – they now have around 150 – are provided with a training pack, hi-vis vests, snow shovel and supply of salt ready for the arrival of the white stuff. To be a Snow Warden you will need access to a mobile phone or the Internet to receive weather information and alerts during periods of extreme weather.

If you are interested in becoming a Snow Warden click here or email snowwardens@telford.gov.uk

It is helpful if the ten signatures are accompanied by printed names and addresses.

** In calculating the notice period, day one is the day following the date of this notice; a Saturday, Sunday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday or a Bank Holiday or day appointed for public thanksgiving or mourning shall be disregarded, and the period closes at midnight on the fourteenth day after the date of this notice.

Councillor David Jones

Councillor David Jones

It is with great sadness that the Parish Council announces the death of Councillor David Jones who passed away on Wednesday 14th October 2015 after a short illness. Councillor Jones represented the Hadley Castle Ward on the Parish Council and served as a member of the Parish Council's Events Committee for several years.

Outside of the Parish Council David served as Treasurer of The Friends of Apley Woods.  His contribution to the work of the Friends cannot easily be measured, not only because of its range but because the generosity, humour and warmth that he brought meant that, in the words of a colleague, "he was the rock on which we at Friends of Apley Wood frequently leaned."

 Meetings of the Parish Council
The next meeting of the full council will be held on Tuesday 3rd November 2015
commencing at 7.00 p.m and held at the Castle Farm Community Centre, Hadley.
