Cemetery

An Introduction

Hadley Cemetery is situated in Hadley Park Road, Hadley and is owned and managed by Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council. A full table of fees is available on this website (see below), from local Funeral Directors and Memorial Masons, or direct from Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council at Castle Farm Community Centre, High Street, Hadley, Telford TF1 5NL (phone/fax 01952 245501, email clerk@hadleyandleegomery-pc.org.uk)

The Cemetery was opened in 1902, and the Council often receives enquiries from people who are tracing their family history. There is a non-denominational chapel in the cemetery which was restored in 2006 and may be used for funeral services. The Council employs a full time Cemetery Superintendent who looks after the cemetery. All enquiries should be directed to him in the first instance, at the cemetery during normal working hours (9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. Monday – Friday) either by personal visit or telephone on 01952 223418.

The cemetery opening hours for visitors are:

1st May - 31st August

9.00 A.M. - 9.00 P.M. daily
1st September - 30th April 9.00 A.M - Dusk daily

Burials

Spaces are allocated in the cemetery for full interments and for burial of cremated remains. Arrangements should be made through a funeral director in the first instance. Burials take place between 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. on Monday to Friday. If you would like a burial to take place outside these hours or at weekends every effort will be made to meet your requirements, although additional fees will be payable.

Memorials

The Council will try to provide the bereaved with as much flexibility as possible in the choice of memorials and other items that will be permitted in the cemetery, but the Council also has to consider the overall appearance of the cemetery and balance the practical requirements of maintenance and the safety of its staff and members of the public. The Council therefore publishes a formal policy relating to memorials and other items that are permitted, and a copy is available on this website (see below).

To ensure that all memorials are safely installed to standards set by the National Association of Memorial Masons (NAMM), the Council operates a registration scheme for memorial masons who wish to carry out installations or work on memorials in Hadley Cemetery. To become registered the Memorial Masons must show that they meet those installation requirements, that they have adequate public liability insurance and that they offer suitable guarantees of their products and workmanship. A list of Memorial Masons who are currently registered to work in Hadley Cemetery is available on this website (see below). Inclusion in this register does not imply any recommendation by the Council of a particular firm. If you wish to instruct a Memorial Mason who is not currently on the list, they can apply to the Council at any time to become registered.
